01 Feb NEWSLETTER HONORING OLOKUN AND THE ANCESTORS DURING TH MONTH OF FEBRUARY
Rituals of celebration are services honoring and thanking the presence of God’s intelligence everywhere in the world. The divine intelligence is always present and ready to assist you whenever you are experiencing adversity or in a place of jubilation and thanksgiving.
The three requirements for sharing in God’s spiritual power are Peace in the face of adversity, Oneness and unity for all, and Love for all through the love of God.
This February we honor the Ancestors of the Oceans and the energy of Olokun. Olokun is the essence of God/Goddess who governs lakes, lagoons, rivers and their mother the ocean. Olokun represents the ocean’s ability to redeem and transform the world. He/She influences our dream state. His worship and celebration is a request which grants us the ability to open the deep dark, mysterious parts of our being, which at times may become ignored and goes unattended in our daily lives.
Olokuns colors are white, silver, crystal, all shades of blue and corral. Its numbers are 4 and 7.
The quidding proverbs says: “No one knows what lies at the bottom of the sea”
In life we may sometimes look at the obvious service of a situation, however there are deeper wiser truths lying below the service that has rich, abundant blessings. As a keeper of secrets, Olokun holds the mysteries of what happened to many Africans as they crossed the middle passage to the New World during the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade.
During the entire month of February we take the time to honor those ancestors who’s stories were never told.
An empowering ceremony for the ancestors during this time is to call their names, put their photos in a prominent place, pour a libation of water and share their deed, strengths and weaknesses with our families and communities. The energy of Olokun reminds of the importance of sharing gratitude, history, tradition, optimism, striving for advancement, and wealth in a positive manner.
There are events and circumstances happening all around you globally, in your country, state, community family or personally. This may cause you to be distracted from remembering that God always is in the midst off all storms and everything.
We can best serve ourselves by looking at history, past events that have sometimes frightened, confused and maybe even enraged you, but look at what clarity and strength resilience came from them.
This month as we dive deep into the healing water energy of Olokun take the opportunity to learn, new ways of centering ourselves. By coming together in community, using common strengths, to educate, encourage, connect not compete or compare, with each other which can make it easier in finding new ways of dealing with old issues, patterns, dogma or stigma .
Some deep aspects of our lives may flow up to the surface this month encouraging you and others around you to dive deeply into how you feel. The intention is for you to discover what you may need to let go of in order to gain a broader sense of emotional freedom.
There are parts of our emotions that are pushed deep within our minds and body in order to cope from external pressures. It’s important to recognize their existence and allow its energy to be released and resolved through Olokun.
By being like the fish, Olokun’s messenger, use your nose to go head first into the pool of possibility that awaits you at the surface.
Embrace this time to release any feelings that may have been weighing you down for a while or recently.
Now is a good time to own your feelings without placing any blame. By acknowledging and accepting the flow and full range of emotions that are part of our humanness , you can use them to catapult you into doing something to change its effects when not healed or addressed fully.
During this time, you may ask yourself, “What emotions do I need to release that are influencing my perception of myself and of the world?” and, “What truths do I need to absorb or accept in order to move forward effectively?”.
Here are 4 rituals that can assist with the energy of Olokun:
1) Make a spiritual bath by calling a list of your ancestor’s names while rubbing and crushing the leaves of rosemary basil and peppermint herb together, add a little gin or any liquor to the mixture. Pray any affirming words that comes to your spirit, or read a passage from sacred texts, or chant to Olokun.
After you are finished making this powerful bath use the mixture to sprinkle around your home as well as to add to your bath water or pour over your body after rinsing off the soap during your shower.
You can do this ritual about 3 times during the month. Feel free to make more of the sacred wash and share with family throughout the month of Olokun.
2) I invite you to find a sacred space near water in nature or with a large bucket of water to sit daily for at least 10 minutes to pray and meditate. Visualize yourself coming from the bottom of the sea and swimming to the surface bringing your spirits freedom and liberation. Journal each experience and thank its presence and power to heal you. Anger, sadness, tears and other emotions are ways that at times opens spirits to release. Let go of what no longer serves you. Turn all limiting beliefs over to be healed with God’s wisdom grace and rejuvenating love. Meditation with my CD Yemoja ( available on Yeyefini.com) is a beautiful support during this time as well.
3) Cook some food and put it on a sacred space, ancestral altar and at the edge of the sea as we pray and give them gratitude for our rich legacy of power and continually opening our eyes to what is real and what is not.
4) When you are triggered to react negatively or get distracted from who you are as a expression of the Divine power of god take 3 breaths and say “WHAT WOULD MY ANCESTORS DO” as you remember – We are not alone!
Here is what I pray for you:
“Olodumare will rescue you from people who are planning to deliberately hurt you and destroy your business/work/job today and beyond. Every dream that translates to death, setback, poverty and failure will not come to fulfillment in your life. I command the fire from above to destroy every evil altar where your name and that of your family is being placed or mentioned. You are divinely immune against poverty, sickness, failure and destruction. As from today people will always remember your good deed and Olodumare will use that to bless you and the work of your hand. Olodumare will cleanse your destiny of the disturbance of your past errors. Your life shall not be surrendered to the will of your enemies. You will triumph in everything you do. You will always go higher in life. Olodumare will speak abundance to all areas of your life today and they shall be permanent”
Have a blessed Olokun cycle.
