In celebration of Women’s History Month, Oshun/ OSUN, Oxum, Het Heru, Venus, Caridad del Cobre, Mamá Chola and all fresh flowing sweet springs, waterfalls and rivers in the world, we say Happy New You and New Year.
Spring has sprung and just like flowers, we are blooming and ready to show the universe how well we maneuvered through the dark, cold, dry winter months. During the winter season in the Western Hemisphere, some of us are forced to spend a lot of time indoors hibernating to stay warm, joyful while introspecting and figuring out what new things we want to bring into our lives. Just like trees, the sap from the tree goes deep into its roots to store its nutrients and conserve its life-giving properties for bursting into bloom, flower, and fruit.
The month of March has been dedicated to Women’s History Month and Osun as a way to hopefully shed a light on the importance of the Womb-man. I am taking the opportunity to focus on the POWER of women.
Womb-man/Woman. The holder and keeper of the potential of humanity. Without the joining of womb-man and man, God would not have the opportunity to bring forth itself to physical form and live with nature/Neteru/God/Source. As humans developed techniques for survival, they perfected ways of guaranteeing food, shelter, and clothing for themselves. Women were given the gift of the monthly cycle that is a rhythmic dance around the cycles of the moon. The moon in its 4 stages of new, waxing, waning and full is the rhythmic dance that nature has in the 4 seasons of the year. Having a deep connection and appreciation for the systems and synchronicity of nature, she is the first scientist and she understands the importance of systems working independently but knowing its connectivity as the ultimate intention.

Thank you Nana Buluku (Fon), Nana Buruku (she was the first hunter before Ogun/Iron came to earth), Yemowo/Oodua, Yemu, Yembo the source of the power of weaving cloth for the survival of human beings. Her genius, intelligence Ase given to her by Olodumare allowed her to see the importance and wisdom of collaboration with the plants
Thank you Osun, Owner of the rivers, sweet waters of the earth. The divine warrior Queen, cloth dyer, wife mother, expansionist, the 5 senses, mother of all altars, the assistant to creation, visualizer of humanity and brilliant strategist. We honor you as we create sacred spaces, set your shrines up in our homes, or sit in meditation at rivers and offer you honey, cakes, fruit, cooked food and champagne in thanksgiving
As a respected elder in African Spiritual Practice, my intention this new year/Spring is to take a renewed, refreshed approach to making more accessible my experience as a mother, grandmother, teacher, student and entrepreneur in Ancient Wisdom Teachings through African Spiritual Practice
My commitment is how to better show up for the younger generation of women in this tradition who are diligently, passionately and with conviction doing the work to heal themselves by evolving and taking what we have or have not shared with them and making their mark in the world
While introspecting and reflecting on where to go and how to get to our dreams in life, we often times put ourselves into painful, awkward situations that force us to cut and prune or “repot” our lives by the time Spring rolls around. Trying to hold on to rotten roots or worn out ideas about ourselves causes us sometimes to judge ourselves and others harshly as we postpone, fight against the change and discomfort of expansion. The proverb that says “For everything there is a season,” I like to expand on it and say “Everything in life we attract comes to us for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.” Letting go and moving away from spiritual attachments, people or relationships can be at times challenging as we figure out the value of lessons and blessings in our lives
