01 May Blessed Month of May in Honor of The Ancestors and Songo
Blessed New Month, New Classes, Memorial Day, and Songo Celebration of your Royal Illustrious Ancestors. You come from Kings and Queens…. thus, you are as well.
During the season of honoring our illustrious, brilliant, courageous, resilient Ancestors, and Orisa Songo. This is a good time to do something special to remember, re-connect and recognize how blessed we are to have their blood still running through our veins.
The ancestral legacy handed down to you over thousands of years, carries with it the source of all of your potential to find hope when feeling despondent, happiness when you achieve what may seem like an impossibility, and laughter when you look at some of the hilarious antics of your family members. Each family has its own unique “specialness”. Some families are close, others not as close and many have legacies of separateness. We all seek connection to family whether through blood or those we have adopted due to circumstance, love, necessity or intention.
Today I make a conscious choice to honor my ancestor’s memory by being more intentional with my words, actions and thoughts because their eyes are watching and encouraging me with pride.
The month of May is the time to awaken, celebrate, and honor the energy center of power that exists, flows and is accessible to every living thing. Some know this power as the Divine Power of SONGO, JAKUTA, HEVIOSO.
According to the Yoruba mythological stories of the Orisa Songo, Songo was a very powerful king who reincarnated and still lives and manifests as the fire, strength and unconquerable energy that is required to overcome challenges we face on earth. When in balance and used harmoniously, actions and reactions benefit everyone and everything.
Whenever we are facing what may seem like insurmountable challenges in our life, we too have the power to live after what seems like a death.
Songo is the essence of power that when it is awakened and balanced it manifests as a person who has vision, strength, compassion
During the month of May; Remember, you have the ability to rise to your best and be KING of your own life or fall to your lowest and be a victim.
Excerpt from my book The Household Guide for Yoruba Spiritual Wellness: Sango represents your ability to either be God or human. During this time, you have the ability to rise to your highest or fall to your lowest. Songo’s colors are red and white. Sango governs the base of trees, rain, and thunder. He governs the male reproductive system, the bone marrow, and the fire essence of life, Ra, yang energy. He governs red foods. His foods include okra, green banana, and plantain.
His artifacts include a double axe, Oshe Songo, panther, ram, horse, turtle, and drums. His gems are ruby and garnet.
Rituals and ceremonies:
During the month of May take 10 minutes and record all of the things that you are unhappy about. I mean record it with all of the passion, anger, rage, feelings, people, places and things that have kept you trapped in dis- empowerment. Once finished, play this recording every day for exactly 10 minutes. Play your HEALING RECORDING until you no longer feel its power…for some it may take 3 days others it may take longer..LOL don’t give up…this really works.
Here are a few tid-bits that you may want to use to wake up your Songo and allow that Power to manifest as abundance, new loves, new job…heck new you!
For financial abundance. Take 6-12 bananas, wash and dry, massage with palm oil, talk to them about what you want, blow cigar smoke over the banana’s multiple times, tie a red ribbon or string on them and hang them above the door, or anywhere in your home during this Songo season or anytime you want to increase your financial blessings
Set a sacred space for meditation, prayer or reflection to Songo. Add a red and white cloth to the table or shelf. Add anything, such as figurines, of a leopard, horse, red rooster, large red candle, 6 black stones, garnet crystal or photos that draws you to him. Pour a libation daily, meditate and visualize your objective.
Take a large stalk of bananas available sometimes at your neighborhood botanica. Wash the bananas (which could be about 60 bananas or more) Dry them, blow cigar smoke over them, hang in your house. Proceed to stick 66, single one-dollar bills in between all of the bananas, one by one. This is very efficacious for receiving BIG blessings from Songo. When the bananas are over -ripe, put them in the woods at the base of a tree and thank Songo for your blessing. You can spend the dollars after the ritual has been completed.
