Blessed new month of September, Fall equinox and Oya Celebration. During this season we take time to slow down, recalibrate for the upcoming fall season. The universe is so beautiful and powerful that it allows us to shift gears spiritually emotionally and cyclically.

We have a had a very hot summer filled with eye opening experiences that leaves us celebrating the fact that we are still here whole and re-minded of the power of spirit.

I am personally grateful for the opportunity to have shared space with our amazing young adult children’s rights of passage. The adult SEI experience where I was a part of a community who came together for deep Ancestral and personal growth.

As the director of these programs for over 30 plus years I am always left with a richer appreciation for our ancient ancestral practices, wisdom and contribution to the evolution as human beings developing our divinity.

This year I gained the privilege of choosing a new way of being as I celebrated my 55th Aniversary as a priestess of Obatala.
All of us are growing and being better at whatever life gives us as experiences for growth.
As an old Lady 😅 I am living in complete gratitude for every experience life has given to me.
I will Be more, not Do more!

Oya allows us to appreciate the part of our spirit that is structured, has limitations, organizations, requires perseverance, cycles of life, divine plan, sobriety, miscarriage of undertakings, failures, pessimism, caution, delays, adversity, deconstruction, reconstruction, death and resurrection.

Oya’s energy allows us to recognize that after the storm, there is calm. The calm comes when we appreciate in the moment and in the event that every situation is temporary and that all change is good. Oya is the wind of change, the hurricane, tornado, desert, and those people who have been abandoned or orphaned. Oya is the divine protector. She is steadfast in friendship and is always reliable. Oya is a Warrior for truth, reality, cold fact, and unemotional calculated approach to life. Oya is associated with the sweeping winds of change, which represents the forecaster or point of woman of change. She is the invisible dividing line which foretells the change of seasons. Oya is represented by revolution and can be viewed as the power of progression or the power of reversal. She is the owner of the marketplace where fortunes can change hands, poor become rich, rich become poor, and both goods and people spin in a never ending exchange. Oya represents the destruction of old society and the making way for the new society.Oya has the power to completely destroy cities and fields, reverting them back to their primal state. Oya’s colors are purple, black, dark blue, indigo, brown and burgundy. Her number is 9, the day of the week is Thursday, and her planet is Pluto. Oya’s tools are machetes, masks, scythe(and tool for mowing grass), horsetail (iruke).

Oya ritual to cleanse your house of negative energy/Meaningful Mondays Iyalode Efunbolade

Take cloves and burn them on top of hot charcoal in a fireproof incense burner to smudge your house and remove spiritual blockage. This can also be used for meditation and to boost energy levels.

Altar setup

Choose your space and cleanse it, get a white or burgundy cloth for covering. Have a rainbow or white colored candle with some of her elements such as pictures of tornadoes or hurricanes. Copper jewelry or copper items and an image or statue representing Oya.

Oya-Courageous Change Maker I Hear Olofi’s Song Ayoka Wiles

Oya, buffalo woman, I hear the sounds of the winds through your sokotos and palmed mariwo as you move briskly shifting and causing an awakening in me. I am awakened by your prowess and agility. I am awakened by your steadfast and relentless ability to cause a shift in me when things seem uncomfortable and I am unable to move. Oya, Iya Yansa, I pray that you always show up to fight my battles, my inner battles, especially when I may fight the inevitable change that is waiting for me, when I’m too afraid to move. I pray that you enable me to let go and surrender so I am able to break through the blessing you have in store for me. I supplicate to you in this moment and in this experience that your winds slide under my feet adjusting and shifting my conditioning around the past that I seem to be holding onto. That the inner chambers of the tornadoes cause things to move in ways my mind’s eye cannot see but will dissolve in my mind of confusion or indecision I may have. For these things I pray, that I may have meaningful relationships in my life. That growth reflects my evolutionary process. Oya awakens in me the understanding to see and embrace change in others. Oya allow your spirit to envelope and embrace my spirit for the ultimate illumination of my essence to glow.
